Summer Rage by Jay Slime review/analysis: A deluxe better than the original album

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

Jay Slime is a New York rapper/singer who is known for his collaborations with Adubbski, Xyah Aaliyah, and Lil Femto. Jay is influenced by XXXTentacion and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and Lil Uzi Vert. It is clear that the latter artist influenced this project. This project is a pop/rap album which is a deluxe to Different Vibe. The debut single is GO which I did enjoy a lot.

Summer Rage has a majority bell or techno synth melodies that remind me of early Maaly Raw and Don Cannon production from years back. The first song reminds me of early Lil Uzi Vert mixtapes and is quite impressive. Nobody is denying that Jay Slime can sing but I beg the question, Who does he collaborate with the most? My answer is himself I do not really like any songs Jay Slime does with other people and this project is an example of how well Jay can carry his own songs.

The build up on the intro track To Be With You is amazing and shocking. Most of the tracks are romantic and light in tone except for Stop Freestyle. This track is produced by Jay Slime and I enjoyed it a lot. This is my second favorite track with the intro being my favorite. I overall enjoy all the tracks on this project, my only complaints are 3 main things. My complaints are repetitive lyrics, underwhelming 808s, inconsistency in drums. The reason for the last complaint is that the snares and drums in Memories were really interesting and real sounding but the other drums on the other tracks are underwhelming.

Overall the project is a 9/10. I would definitely recommend as the first thing to listen to by Jay Slime when getting into his music. I think this is his best work and I think he should work with the executive producer Celzius more. The best produced tracks are To Be With You, Stop Freestyle, and Memories.

This is the wizard, maddsnake, mike hass, signing out.
